1. Why did you move abroad?
My husband decided to attend medical school as an international student in the Caribbean. We eventually want to move to Africa, where he was born, but this is a great place to start our expat adventures! After all, who wouldn’t want to spend a few years on a tropical island?

From Cambridge to Toronto: Brown Bear Travels

25 January, 2016 10:37  Erin Erin

brown bear travels We’re Emma and Stewart from Cambridge, England now living in Toronto, Canada. We like chocolate, pizza and our foster cats. Since living in Toronto, we’ve discovered a liking for poutine and beaver tails, whilst also developing a keener appreciation for the coming of Spring!

1.    Why did you move abroad?
We love travelling and liked the idea of living somewhere else for a bit and really getting to experience a new way of life so we looked into Working Holiday visas. The options were limited really to Canada, Australia and New Zealand. Canada offered lots of things we like when going on holiday: the great outdoors, mountains, lakes and wildlife with the added advantage of being that bit closer to home. Every single person we know who has visited raved about it, so we always knew we’d have a great time.

From the UK to the Netherlands: I Wander and Roam

11 January, 2016 08:26  Erin Erin

I Wander & Roam amsterdam My name is Claire and I’m from the UK. I left the UK in May 2014 before moving to the beautiful city of Amsterdam which I currently call home.

1.    Why did you move abroad?
When I decided to leave the UK I had been running my own vintage shop for around four years and whilst it was an amazing experience it wasn’t always easy to find time to travel. I knew I wanted a change from the UK and having always felt at home in Madrid moving there was an easy decision to make.  I fell in love with city:  the sunshine, the slower pace of life, the people, the food the wine… but had also recently fallen for a Dutch guy. After a bit of back-and-forthing between Amsterdam and Madrid (& Stockholm), I decided to make the move back to the rainy skies of Northern Europe .

From the UK to Greece: Ramblings From Rhodes

04 January, 2016 08:26  Erin Erin

Ramblings From RhodesJohn Manuel, born in Bath, UK, now living on Rhodes.

1. Why did you move abroad?
Lots of reasons. Among them - UK is congested beyond belief, nanny state was getting on my nerves, to simplify our lives, shed ourselves of a lot of material things. The climate played a part, but it wasn’t the main reason.

2. How do you make a living?

Small bits of income from all over the place. A couple of private pensions, part-time work during the summer season, I write books (4 travel memoirs and three novels so far, a 4th novel under construction), A modest return on capital we put away in the UK.

From France to Canada to around the world: Correr Es Mi Destino

28 December, 2015 07:45  Erin Erin

Juliiette Giannesini Canada My name is Juliette but you can call me “Zhu”, my Chinese name. I am one of these people who drag a battered backpack all over the world. Yes, there is a Canadian flag on it—I adopted this country as my new home in 2004.
I was born and raised in France and when I am not traveling the world, I live in Ottawa, Canada, with my husband and our French-Chinese-Canadian son.

1. Why did you move abroad?
It was a three-step process: 1) Travel around Latin America with a Canadian backpacker 2) Fall in love with said backpacker 3) Start a new life in Canada with him!

More seriously, I was born and raised in France and I caught the travel bug at the age of 16, when I spent a summer session in a university in Beijing, China. After I graduated from high school, I said “au revoir la France!”. Over the past 15 years, I worked in Hong Kong, backpacked all over Central and South America, South-East Asia, Australia, New-Zealand, China… and chose Canada as my home base, because everybody needs a home, somewhere!

From Germany to Sweden: way-up-north

21 December, 2015 08:00  Erin Erin

Olaf way up north Hello, I’m Olaf Schneider from Germany and have been living in Skelleftehamn in Northern Sweden since 2010. In my blog way-up-north I’ll write and show photos of landscape, weather and nature in Northern Scandinavia and a bit more.

1. Why did you move abroad?
Since 2003 I’d been in Northern Scandinavia quite often, mostly in wintertime doing ski tours or other holidays. I just loved the nordic landscape and the real winters up here with coldness, polar lights and much snow. I wanted to live here and stop being just a tourist.  After som years of consideration I decided to make this step, travelled to Swedish Lapland and was lucky to find a job in Skellefteå/Sweden. Two month later i moved to Skellefteå, then to Skelleftehamn
