Da Roma alla Polinesia: Edilsognocontinua

18 March, 2013 09:10  Erin Erin

1. Perché ti sei trasferito all'estero?

From Kansas to New Zealand: My Views of New Zealand

11 March, 2013 09:51  Erin Erin

my views of new zealand family My name is Betty and I moved from Kansas in the US to New Zealand in 2006.

1. Why did you move abroad?

In 2003, I joined a forum board and became friends with a lot of people all over the world, including my (now) husband  who lived in NZ. After about 3 years of PMs, emails, IMs, Webcam-ing and telephone calls, I decided to take a chance for once in my live and move to New Zealand.  We got married in a boat off the coast of New Plymouth, Taranaki, in 2006 and had fish and chips on the beach for a reception.

From Indonesia to Scotland to Australia: Finally Woken

10 December, 2012 08:41  Erin Erin

finally woken Anita McKay is a trailing spouse who loves traveling, food, cat, photography and architecture, although not necessarily in that particular order. Born and bred in Indonesia, she went to Sydney, Australia, to finish her master’s degree  – her first taste of being an expat – before going back to Indonesia to work. In 2007 she moved to Aberdeen, Scotland, got married, and settled there for more than 2 years. Just right at the time when she started to understand the Scottish accents, she and her husband had to move again to the most isolated city in the world. She’s been living in Perth, Australia, since November 2009 with her husband and Xander, their 1 year-old cat that’s also a known as the lizard hunter.

1. Why did you move abroad?
I met my then-boyfriend when both of us were working in Indonesia. After 3 years he decided to take a job back in Aberdeen, Scotland, and asked me to move with him. It took me a year before I decided to leave Indonesia and move to Scotland.

1. Why did you move abroad?
My husband Zack works with an IT consulting firm, and he accepted a job transfer to Australia.

2. How do you make a living?
I was a fulltime teacher back in the United States, and I didn’t work outside the home when we first moved abroad. Now I’m a casual relief (substitute) teacher, employed through an agency.

From the USA to Auckland: Practically Perfect...

06 August, 2012 11:47  Erin Erin

Practically Perfect Jenny Tucker – originally from the US, currently living in Auckland, New Zealand

1. Why did you move abroad?
My husband was looking for career opportunities, and we both agreed that we would consider certain countries outside of the US.  We saw one that was being advertised by a New Zealand employer and as the job was very much in line with his interests and expertise, he applied.  He was flown over for an interview, loved the job, really liked the city, and so was happy to accept once they made an offer.

From San Francisco to Brisbane: Pieces of Wendy

23 July, 2012 09:20  Erin Erin

pieces of wendyOriginally from the San Francisco Bay Area, Wendy is a freelance writer and American expat living in Brisbane, Australia. She first moved down under in 2003 after a nasty case of the travel bug drove her to take a long break from college to explore Europe and then Australia. A number of years filled with umming and ahing over what to do with her life took her to various parts of Australia, including an extended stay in Tasmania. In 2006 she finally decided to study journalism and knuckled down with her nose in the books. She left Brisbane for Houston, Texas at the end of 2008 where she worked as a journalist and freelance writer. A couple years later she (and her Brisbane-born fiancé who dragged her to Houston in the first place) returned to Brisbane and is happy to be back––despite her hankering for a decently priced Cadillac margarita on the rocks!

We visited the country a year earlier and fell in love. When my husband was offered a posting here, we leapt at the opportunity.

goddess in the kitchen Hi, I’m Ella. Known to most as pg or Aunty Purple. Originally from Melbourne Australia, now living in Lae, Papua New Guinea.

1. Why did you move abroad?
Most expats will tell you it’s for the experience, or the chance to see other cultures. Us? The GFC hit, my husband was retrenched and he couldn’t get a job in Aus. After 9 months, unemployment and creditors forced us to consider expatting.
