I’m Liene. Originally from Chicago, in November of 2010 my husband, 6 month old son and I moved from South Carolina to Clermont-Ferrand in central France. Femme au Foyer is my blog about adventures in France and Europe, as well as about motherhood, pregnancy abroad (due in early 2012) and our Latvian heritage.
1. Why did you move abroad?
My husband and I had long discussed an expatriation assignment and move overseas as a way to advance his career, spend a few years enjoying our family, learn a new language and broaden our horizon of experiences. When the offer materialized at about the time Lauris was born, we jumped (And we’re still jumping!).

Raquel L. Miranda, Brazilian by birth, lived and studied in Argentina. Worked as an international researcher in the USA, before marrying and becoming a Foreign Service ‘hauling spouse’, mother of 3 third-culture children, all under the age of 7! Currently posted in Recife, Brazil - previous posts including Washington, DC and Maputo, Mozambique.
1. Why did you move abroad?
I was born abroad! [smiles!] My parents used to be public servers with the Brazilian government, so we traveled a lot. With a background in science and research, I was always on a plane, traveling to conferences or symposiums. Then, one day, 11 years ago, resting at the beach in Brazil, while taking a break from my PhD research and endless lecture preparation at the university, I met the one who would become my husband – he was a charming 26 year-old pre-grad student, interested in international politics, and (surprise!), who liked to travel around the world. When an offer to work as a researcher at the University of California (at Davis) came along, I felt like it was a great opportunity to give my then-growing relationship, a shot! And, so far, it’s been working pretty well! Every couple of years our family moves to a different post, adjusts to different cultures, different settings – and we love it! It’s challenging, but intriguing, and it can be a lot of fun! We are an adventures group of people, and we tend not to be afraid of new tasks.

Howdy. I’m Amanda, but I blog/twitter/facebook as pomo mama, or sometimes as ebbandflo. I live near Vancouver, BC and moved from London, UK over ten years ago. I was born in Scotland.
1. Why did you move abroad?
I moved for love - sigh – my husband got a secondment. We’d always wondered “How do we get to live here?” as we travelled through Vancouver in airport transfer buses on our way to Whistler. So when he was offered the chance there were no second thoughts! I cheerfully resigned my way to expat unemployment.

In the internet and on my blog, I call myself Rigó Jancsi, which is both a delicious type of cake and the name of a Gypsy violinist who had an affair with an American millionaire’s daughter. I neither play the violin, nor am I a Gypsy, but I like the cake. I am German and have spent most of my life in Germany. Three years ago I moved to Hungary and now live in a town right outside the city boundaries of Budapest.
1. Why did you move abroad?
I moved to Hungary because of love. I met my Hungarian wife twelve years ago, and for several years we lived together in Germany. So I decided that I would do the same for her: She came to Germany for me, I would go to Hungary for her.

One of my colleagues, a sociologist, jokes that one could do a really telling study of EU academic immigration just by looking at what he calls “el factor n,” the novio (boyfriend/girlfriend) factor in migration. My husband works full time, and I am a ‘stay at home’ Mum 3. How often do you communicate with home and how?
I stay in touch with family and friends mainly via email, facebook and sometimes Skype. I am online every day so always have some contact with people.

We are Florine and Simon, a twenty-something couple from Belgium. Adventurous world wanderers and curious photography amateurs, we love to explore new places and share our stories through our blog Ozawapi.
Our travel addiction really started back in 2004. Travelling Down Under had been in our mind for some time. Freshly graduated, we decided to go for it.
7 years, 4 continents and 35 countries later, we are still enjoying traveling together and are not planning on stopping any time soon. From a little shack in the middle of the jungle in Northern Thailand to the 66th floor of a 5 star hotel in Tokyo, we love experiencing the world in very different ways.

I am MeanderingMiss of the Xpat Escape blog and Twitter. I use this pseudonym everywhere. We might even have run across each other in an expat forum or two, but you can call me Stephanie.
We moved to Churuquita Grande, Panama from Austin, Texas in January 2011.
Some of my favorite things are photography, travel, writing, and cooking. Recently opening a Mexican Restaurant in La Chorrera, Panama generally occupies the rest of my free time!
1. Why did you move abroad?
The hubs and I wanted to live in a tropical climate and still have spare funds to invest in our future. We chose Panama because it’s a quick flight back and forth but still worlds apart.
