From Sydney to Hong Kong: Eclectic Cool From Sydney to Hong Kong: Eclectic Cool

Erin Erin  Date 28 July, 2011 09:41

eclectic cool joanne I am Joanne, a Sydneysider. I own and design the lifestyle label, Eclectic Cool, based in Hong Kong.  I have been living in Hong Kong for 4.5 years with my family: a husband, 3 kids and a dog.

1. Why did you move abroad?
I moved to Hong Kong as my husband was doing a lot of travelling from Sydney all around the world chasing great business opportunities. A move to Asia meant that he was closer to the action and the travelling was easier. I was also keen to develop my business ideas in Asia.

From Somerset to Boston: On Love, Tea, and Alienship From Somerset to Boston: On Love, Tea, and Alienship

Erin Erin  Date 25 July, 2011 11:16

love tea alienship wed day My name’s Hannah, but my many nicknames include Hans, Span and (most recently, thanks to my husband), The HanMan (I’m told the The is important). I’m originally from Somerset, England, but lived for a number of years in London, and am currently living in Boston USA (read: suburb of Boston that’s nowhere near as nice as actual Boston).

1. Why did you move abroad?
I’d love to say it was for a job or an adventure or because I wanted easy access to Mozzarella Sticks…but it was for a man – Jeremy. We’d long distanced for over seven years (with some respite when I studied in Boston for a year) and then decided to get married and try living on the same continent. (More)

1. Why did you move abroad?
My husband works for a Canadian reforestation company and he manages projects in Latin America.  When the opportunity to move to Costa Rica came up, we jumped at the chance. (More)

fabio mondoscopeThis talented Blogger presented his interview in both English & Italian! Read our first Italian interview below and check out his English & Italian blogs.

Mi chiamo Fabio, sono nato a Padova. Attualmente vivo nel sud est asiatico, la maggior parte del tempo tra Thailandia e Malesia.

1. Perché ti sei trasferito all'estero?
Non c'è una ragione particolare. E' stato un impulso, qualcosa di piuttosto irrazionale. Credo di averlo fatto più che altro per curiosità e irrequietezza. (More)

From South Africa to Mozambique: Travelling Tonito's Adventures From South Africa to Mozambique: Travelling Tonito's Adventures

Erin Erin  Date 14 July, 2011 10:58

Tonito hukah My name is Tony and I was born (to Portuguese parents) and raised in South Africa. After 18 years in the motherland, I moved to London where I (and my parents) decided would be the best place to become smart (otherwise known as a university education). After living in London for six years (and seeing the sun for a total of 7 days in those 6 years), I decided to move after getting a job offer in Abu Dhabi. A year after arriving in Abu Dhabi, I was posted to Tripoli, Libya until the current revolution meant relocating once more, this time to Beira, Mozambique.

1. Why did you move abroad?
I moved abroad (to London) because my parents and I thought it would be a worthwhile experience to study in London as opposed to going to college in South Africa. It was probably the best decision ever made, as moving from my 20,000 population town to a cosmopolitan city like London, meant growing up very quickly and gave me the opportunity to meet people from places I never even knew existed!

From Singapore to Tokyo: Lioness in Japan From Singapore to Tokyo: Lioness in Japan

Erin Erin  Date 11 July, 2011 10:57

lioness japan bike My name is Yu Ming and I’m from the Little Red Dot, also known as Singapore. I moved to Tokyo in Oct 2006 and from being just a “trailing spouse”, I’m running my own online business, Beauty Box, an online store that sells Japanese beauty products and supplements to the US and Canada.

1. Why did you move abroad?
My fiancé got a job with an Australian software company that needed someone to head up their Tokyo office. He moved there eight months before I did to have a feel for the place and to make sure he really liked the job. Once he decided it would be a permanent location for us, he asked me to move to Japan, so I quit my job, packed my bags, and flew over.

De Paris à New York: Desperate French Mom De Paris à New York: Desperate French Mom

Erin Erin  Date 07 July, 2011 09:31

burnt tuscan sun fracesca Francesca Maggi, Multimedia Producer living in Rome (6 yrs) after living in Milan 12 years

1. Why did you move abroad?
As an Italian-American, I travelled to Italy as a child and again through college.  I always wanted to live there.  So, I made my career in NYC out of New Business Development – working with Italy and in 1992 a Company from my hometown (Metro Detroit) sent me to run their subsidiary in Milan.  Since then, I’ve changed jobs but have always stayed abroad.
